Choosing the Right Book Journal

An open book journal

Choose a book journal that fits your personal style!

Are you a creative who doesn't want to be bound by preformatted pages because you'd rather make each page uniquely your own?  Maybe the opposite is true for you--you aren't creative and prefer a journal that has everything formatted for you.  Whether you want something simple or detailed...

THERE'S A BOOK JOURNAL FOR YOU!

Books I've Read-A Reader's Journal

This book journal is one of my favorites--it has it all!  Several reflective prompts to help you express your thoughts on the books you've read, and every page is attractive and cozy.  The best part is the spiral binding because it's easier to write when you can lay the journal flat.

The best part about this book journal is the reading challenge it includes to make sure you branch out of your comfort zone and experiment with other genres.

For the Love of Books--A Reading Journal for Book Lovers

People love the cover as well as the coloring pages and month/yearly wrap-ups this book journal includes.  It is paperback, which means it is also economical.

This book journal boasts a class-looking cover.  It only holds 52 journal entries, which is ideal for readers who average about one book per week.

I like the simplicity of the cover and the color options.  Plus, the inside presets are visually appealing.  This book journal includes, not only pages to write thoughts on each book, but also places to list the books you've read, lists of books you didn't finish, and a reading wish list.

The selling point of this book journal is the cover.  It's gorgeous!  Each journal entry is confined to one page, but it's organized in a way that you can express several sentiments in a concise way.

HOW TO START BOOK JOURNALING IN 2025 AND BEYOND

Fun Book Journaling Supplies

You decide how simple or complex your book journal will be!

Don't overthink it, or you'll never start.

Preset journals will guide you through the process, but if you're using a blank journal or one with room for creativity, there are fun supplies you'll love using (even though pencil and paper will work).  I'll share some of my favorites below (just click on the images to view on Amazon).

Pretty pens for book journaling

These are nice too, especially if you want your book journal to be look cheerful.  Use the color that matches your mood.

Post It tabs for book journaling

I'm a pen snob.  They have to be pretty, colorful, functional, and fit nicely in my hand.

If you aren't able to journal at the same time you're reading--maybe there's no room in the car or you're waiting at the dentist office--then you need a way to mark the pages where a thought inspires you that you want to write down later.  These pastel tabs do the job.

You never outgrow fun stickers!  Brighten up your book journal and make it your own with bookish stickers that will make you happy just using them!

No bleed highlighters for book journaling

We already talked about choosing the right pens, but you need no-bleed highlighters, too, in order to emphasize all your key journal points.

Where are you going to keep all of your book journaling supplies?  You need a carrying case!  This one is actually a bible tote, but it's adorable and comes equipped with pens, highlighters, and tabs.

A lap desk isn't REALLY necessary, but if you want options for journaling while sitting on the couch, in your favorite chair, or in bed, the firm surface helps.
